Really disappointed by a piece of casual ableism I saw in a screenshot, can you confirm whether it's played straight or commented on?

The "I got kicked in the head by a sheep when I was a baby" line is really demeaning and insulting to people with brain injuries. I know it's supposed to be a joke, since they're saying they're not communist because of it, but it feels in incredibly poor taste to use a neurological injury beyond someone's help for a throwaway joke.

I'd be happier if this was put in the Content Warnings, or possibly revised, because as of writing it feels unjust to play a game which treats disabilities as a punchline.

(+24)(-3)

why are you out here discoursing about a game you haven't even played because you saw something out-of-context on twitter. get a life lol.

(+1)(-3)

I just want to make sure the game I'm playing isn't ableist. What's the full context of it?

(+6)

THE MAIN CHARACTER IS AN AMALGAMATION OF PHRASES SHES PICKED UP FROM NOT GETTING OUTSIDE ENOUGH. SHE DOESNT REALLY THINK THROUGH WHAT SHE SAYS, MUDDLING HER WAY THROUGH LIFE, TRYING TO SAY THINGS SHE THINKS PEOPLE WILL LIKE, OFTEN UNSUCCESSFUL SINCE SHE HAS LITTLE CONCEPT OF BEING RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS. SHE DOES HER BEST, BUT SHE, LIKE YOU AND ME, IS FULL OF IMPERFECTIONS. ITS HER NURTURE, SAD TO SAY. CHARACTERS IN THIS GAME ARE WRITTEN OFTEN TO BE ABRASIVE TO ONE ANOTHER, I SUSPECT IF YOU DISLIKE THAT SORT OF THING YOU WONT ENJOY IT, SORRY.

(+3)(-1)

No, that's actually good. I'm not the kind of person who thinks "if a character display *any* problematic behaviour, that means the game is too". I was just trying to see if the ableism is used as comedy or, like you've said in your comment, as a reflection of her character. Abrasive, imperfect characters are good, I just wanted to make sure the game wasn't permitting or condoning ableist behaviour. When my paycheck next comes in, I'll be more than happy to buy this game!

EPIC

(+4)

I adore this game, it has made me laugh and had me share many moments of writing with friends, while moving me, at times genuinely disturbing me (in a good way...?). I am so glad I found out about it!

(+3)(-1)

SUPER. GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT.

(+3)

I really really really need this but dollar is quite steep for me :c
Steam release and my life is yours!!

(-5)

So I'm going to be honest, I found this game after seeing a screenshot on Twitter of the dialogue and it did not leave the best first impression. But  after seeing the absolutely beautiful artwork, I decided to give it a try. I'm writing this comment before I've tried out the game, so here's hoping that this is a hidden gem.

(+9)(-2)

IF YOU WANT YOU CAN IGNORE THE TEXT AND TREAT IT LIKE A SILENT MOVIE

(+1)

played for like 3 hours and then closed the game and lost all my progress... is there any way to see where saves are stored maybe i can fix it or something..

(+3)(-1)

That's very strange... what platform were you playing on? For me the save games can be found here Users/[Your user]/AppData/Roaming/lovely-lady-rpg/Local Storage/leveldb

Unfortunatly haven't heard of this issue occuring with Narrat before, I'll talk to the engines developer and see if she might know what could cause that :) Sorry!

(+2)

I was playing on win10, and I ended up solving the issue: The game wasn't opening when I clicked the exe at the start of me playing it so i clicked it like 5 times and they've been in the background this entire time lol oops!!

It finally opened but the other 4 have just been chilling in the background of my PC even after I closed the game so I don't know how but they were cock blocking me from accessing my saves when I opened the game again. I restarted my PC and my saves are all there... Excited to continue playing the game has been great so far!

(+2)

FANTASTIC. GLAD IT WORKED OUT FOR YOU. GLAD TO HAVE YOU ABOARD.

(+1)

may god please grant me money to purchase this game someday. it looks so good

(+6)

this is what it's like in my brain at all hours of the day this shit bops. god i wish women were real

(+5)

BOPS

(+8)

it seriously sucks that this game is getting hate over a single image on Twitter. And now people are assuming the worst out of it for no good reason.

(+14)

AVERAGE TWITTER USER IS A PIT OF TAR. MISERABLE AS A DYING DOG, KIND AS A WOUNDED BADGER. ITS NOT THEIR FAULT, ITS THEIR NURTURE.

Alright girl, i'm sold~ not today, but my wallet shall buy your game posthaste <3

(+9)

everyone else said loving heartfelt things which i also felt but there's one other aspect: it's been a week and i keep saying yim yam out loud whenever i feed my pet rabbit irl now

(+4)

YIM YAM.

(+7)

Hi.

This game is beautiful. It is like a warm embrace of emotions - positive and negative, but warm all the same. It is *real*. I feel so extremely seen by the Pulp Writer. By Ghost. You have given me an experience I will think on for many years to come, and replay even more over those years.

Thank you for changing my life, even at this point.

(+4)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS. THE PULP WRITER IS A DARLING ISN'T SHE.

(+8)

This really touched me, thank you for making it. Awooo

(+5)

AWOO

(+6)

One last playthrough and I managed to finally see the comet and set down the Jihad path  and I'm cryin because w-women. ; . ; sob! Its the perfect way to finish with the game and gosh. women. sob!

And I also got evicted, gosh 6 actions/day dont let you dilly dally but its a small price to pay for a smile.

(+2)

ALWAYS WORTH

(+5)

The moment The Nightmare spoke to me I immediately e-brake turned towards getting back on HRT. One demeaning cavalcade of psychosexual bureaucratic horror later, I successfully stole HRT from the pharmacy, immediately shot up and vowed to not do all that again next time and find another way next time, because I will be playing this at least one more time again. Frighteningly good at speaking to the "transfemme with ADHD experience" of "I will put out this fire. There is now another fire. I will put out this fire" happening indefinitely but it's not actually happening to me so I can actually emotionally handle it. Also great to see further expansion on the world of the past few games, genuinely lovely world-building, happily recommending it to other friends/pestering them with snippets out of context to entice them to check it out as well.

(+1)

99% of my clips are Nasty Girl related

(+4)

GET THAT BREAD (ESTROGEN)

(+4)

i just finished this and rlly liked it ^^ um very good yes!! i liked that girl with a pocket knife

(+2)

DANKE

(+3)

the nightmare is real sisters

keep a few nasty girls in your life & it won't fuk wit u

excellent work of beauty and love, thanks dolls

(+3)

NO, THANKS YOU

(+4)

Probably one of the best games I've ever played, thank you so much for making this, it's incredible

(+1)

LIT. DANKESCHÖN.

(+4)

This game scooped out my heart with a melon-baller.  The writing and art are terrific, but oh my god the main theme is so on point.  It's been in my head for days.  I want to live a life where it's an appropriate accompaniment.

(+2)

IT'S A BOPPER.

(+2)

Absolutely love this game! The Gender NKVD and The Nightmare made me feel sick (I mean that as a compliment). But that made the highs of the game all the better - getting the HRT made me feel genuine relief and I teared up when we got to kiss (and kiss, and kiss again) the Scrungly Woman. I can't wait to play again and explore more of the game (thinking I'm going to try being *very* religious on the next run). Incredible game and thank you for making it ^_^

(+1)

CHUFFED. DANKE.

(+5)

Any plans for a steam release?

sadly I have to rely on it (and GOG) as the only two game storefronts that really support my local currency.

(+2)

POSSIBLY YES BUT I DON'T HAVE A TIMELINE FOR IT.

(+1)

Some kind of mobile or tablet release would be utterly catastrophic for my life so I'm eagerly awaiting it.

(+4)

If you had told me my Game of the Year was going to be a weird indie VN , I wouldn't have believed you. But uh here it is and it hits way closer to home then I was ever expecting in the best and worst ways possible from the bad times lifting my bangs in the mirror to the weird sex with women.

(+4)

HEAR THAT, GEOFF KEIGHLEY? THANK YOU FRIEND.

(+3)

Is it a coincidence that the Frankfurt Pervert looks like hbomberguy's fursona?

(+8)(-1)

OTHER WAY ROUND I RECKON.

(+5)(-1)

Started playing yesterday. I think with it being even less gameplay focused than something like Disco Elysium, its needs to rely purely on the strength of the art and writing. Genuinely, it knocks it out of the park on both counts. It's supplanted DE as my pick for best-written game, it gets the pulpy and smoggy vibe across immaculately, and is damn funny to boot. Everyone on the team deserves the highest praise!

(+3)

SUPER. GLAD YOU HAD SUPER FUN.

(+1)

I am thinking about buying it but a quick question:

If it appears one day on Steam, will we get a key as well?

(+2)

IF POSSIBLE YES

Thank you for your answer! If it is possible then I will buy it right away! Cheers!

(+3)

This game looks cool. Will it be made available on Steam?

(+14)

MAYBE ONE DAY BUT REALHEADS GAME ON ITCH!

(+3)

I really enjoyed the game! I think orb is my favorite character :3. Genuine question, can you actually get a good outcome when talking to the gender NKVD? I'm going to assume no.

(+2)

SORT OF.

(+3)

I have only played the first day and I love you Nasty Girl

(+2)

SHE'D PROBABLY LIKE YOU TOO. DANKESCHÖN.

Its so sad she lives in your head rather than being a real live nasty gal!

(+4)

AUGH I set myself up for a double date by accident but oh good they're bonding over the end of the world crisis averted. phew. Having a great time and thinking about this game in my sleep.

p.s. did you want feedback about typos and stuff, and hows the best way to deliver it if so?

(1 edit) (+2)

BETTER TO DREAM OF LLRPG THAN TO DREAM OF THE BLADE WINGED RAVEN.

FEEL FREE TO SHARE ISSUES HERE SO THE WORLD MIGHT SEE MY SHAME OR ADD ME ON X THE EVERYTHING APP "BLAZE YOUR GLORY" AND DM MICH

(+1)

Alright! Some may be me misreading things but here goes so far! everyone else look away from spoilers

-intro, 'purfume'

-Walking with Sinner in the woods, 'segway(tm)' instead of 'segue', either a word  (probably 'hand' or 'arm') is missing in the bit where she puts it on the tree.

-Quest for In Light of the Seventh. Simmer and sinner might need swapping?  Anyway for such a large amount of writing, its remarkable theres only so few typos (though getting clobbered with one right out the gate is a bit heheh)! Its all Ive found so far. Lovin the game and the weird offputting ladies therein.

(+2)

LAST ONE IS INTENTIONAL BECAUSE IM KINDA 'WACKY' AND SILLY, BUT I'LL ADD THE OTHERS TO MY PATCH NOTES 'DANKE'

(1 edit)

Hiya, back with a few more.
Sinner's Apartment 'hans'-> 'hands'.
Lady Moonshine 'in't' accent or typo?
Eiffel Table purchase, 'slither' -> 'sliver'
Exploring Bluehills 'cities' -> 'city's'?

Still having an amazing time, good laughs as well as oof gut punches. <3

Are the game mechanics gotten into anywhere? Like what causes successes/ fails, can you improve your chances, etc? I cant see anywhere to put on my silk kimono to improve my drama!

The choice you make at the very start will boost success in one stat throughout the game, and choosing specific options can make checks easier or harder (having a hammer makes breaking a gate easier, not being annoying makes it easier to convince the weapon to give you a plank etc)

Caution There Be Spoilers Ahead

I also found one in the scene where you are playing board games with The Weapon it says, "Do we every interact with each other in this game?"

Also I don't know if this was intentional but after writing the war story for the Pulp Writer as my last action for that day, the next days I was never prompted to give it to her (when I reloaded and didn't write the story i had the option to go apologize to her). Do you have to turn in the story the same day you write it?

(+1)

YA. THOUGH THERE SHOULD ALSO BE A LATE DELIVERY.  WILL ADD TO PATCH. DANKE.

I ran into this weird glitch where it kept repeating the same dialogue, I reloaded the auto save and it went back to normal so I have no clue how it happened.

SOUNDS LIKE AN ENGINE BUG! I'LL PASS IT OVER TO DA NARRAT DEV! DANKE.

(+5)

Incredible. Hit too close to home. The scene with the biker butch and the pulp writer at the parade had me grinning and clasping my hands together like a gay dipshit. 10/10 goty

(+2)

THANK

Thank you for your vigilance. o7

(+9)

What the hell. Thank you for the warning sir

(+3)

I am utterly obsessed with your game! It is a genuine gift to play. Thank you for making it for all of us to enjoy. <3

(+1)

GLAD 2 'HEAR IT'!

How can one save in this game :P

The game autosaves occasionally and you can manually save at the end of chapters :)

Is there any plans to add the ability to save at any time? :P

Not currently but autosave should pop off every minuite or so. It has your back

Loving the game so far and this might be a really stupid question, but how do I save the game? I know autosaves work but I have no idea how to do a manual save.

Figured it out 5 minutes a later but for anyone with the same question: You get prompts for manual saves later on

(+4)

This one's going to stick with me for a while. It's funny, heartfelt and unflinchingly human. I love weird and offputting women, especially the Pulp Writer <3

(+1)

EXCELLENT TASTE

(+3)

I've finished this game multiple times now, I've done the Sinner route and the Pulp Writer route and wow!! I love it so much! Kudos to the devs, this game makes me so happy

Also if anyone has any advice on how to get with the butch biker, I'd love to hear it... I want to kiss all the girls...

(+1)

SORRY FRIEND GHOST MIGHT BE A LITTLE TOO ODD FOR HER, SAD TO SAY

Wait is there no way ):

(+2)

IT'S HERE

IT'S HERE

IT'S HERE after i got banned from twitter i lost track of the development

Question: I'm curious about streaming this. The CWs for nudity and sexual content worry me ever so slightly. Do you think that's a big deal, or am I fine?

(+1)

we're going to try n get a stream safe version out soon but I don't know much about twitches rules I'm afraid!

(+2)

Holy shit this game is so good! Just finished the Sinner route and am going through to play again already. Good work!

GLAD YOU LIKED IT. SHE'S A BIT HORRIBLE!

(+4)

oh good heavens. will be replaying. got damn.

GLAD TO HEAR YOU HAD FUN

(+4)

This is one of those special games I’m gonna be thinking about for a long time. Heartfelt and sincere and also very very funny, I highly recommend to all gay animals

(+1)

GLAD TO HEAR YOU HAD FUN

(+1)

Hi hi, this game looks awesome and I can't wait to play it. However, I've been having issues getting the linux version to play on steam (though it works fine when you just launch it from the file directory) and I was wondering if you have any advice for any launch options that'd get it to work? If not, I'll just wait until I have access to my desktop again to play it. Thank you!

(+2)

Unfortunately i am not a linux expert and am also away from my pc for a week! Ill see if i can find that out when im back, and I'll chat to the narrat engine dev about it in the meantime in case she can help! Sorry!!!!

(1 edit) (+1)

I got it working on my steam deck with Proton GE, don’t remember what version but it was a recent one. Or maybe it was the other way around

also the desktop version is made with electron so if you find solutions online for electron based games they might apply to this one

(+3)

I followed your suggestion and did some googling, and it turns out typing --no-sandbox into Launch Options makes it work with seemingly no issues through Steam! Thank you!!
